BCCI lifts ban on ICL: Players can return before May 31st PDF Print E-mail

In a surprise decision, the Indian Cricket Board on Wednesday agreed to lift ban on players associated with the rebel ICL if they severed their links with the Subhash Chandra-owned League.

BCCI President Shashank Manohar said the decision was taken after some ICL players and their support staff met the Board members and admitted committing mistake by joining the rebel League.

An outcast in international cricket, Pakistan were crowned the World Twenty20 champions after they spanked continental rivals Sri Lanka by eight wickets in a lop-sided final here on Sunday.

Younus Khan and his men gave their terror-stricken countrymen something to cheer about as they first confined Sri Lanka to 138 for six and then went on to chase down the target in 18.4 overs to put behind the heartbreak of losing the crown to arch-rivals India in the 2007 edition of the tournament.

Pakistan captain Younis Khan has asked his team-mates to push for better IPL contracts following their success in the World Twenty20. "These players are now world champions and highly marketable. There is a higher value to their performances," Younis said.
While many in the team turned out for their respective franchises in the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008, political tensions between India and Pakistan prevented them from playing in the second season. Younis, who played for Rajasthan Royals, noted, however, that top players like Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul and Misbah-ul-Haq were now worth more than the $100,000 contracts they had signed last year.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in the middle of September at a time when India is notorious for heavy rain showers and the fear of countless matches being washed out is forcing the Council to look at a solution over seas.
