Champions league 2010 - Out of India?

The 2010 Twenty20 Champions League will take place outside of India according to sources within the Champions League governing council.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in the middle of September at a time when India is notorious for heavy rain showers and the fear of countless matches being washed out is forcing the Council to look at a solution over seas.

South Africa and England are the favored locations for the tournament but the fall out with the ECB over the scheduling of the event and problems with TV rights would seem to rule England out of the running.

Before this weeks row the ECB have always offered their support in hosting IPL matches but with the dates of the Champions League clashing with the end of the County Championship the chances of historic venues like Lords and the Oval hosting games seems remote.

That leaves South Africa as the clear favorite. After hosting last years IPL which was branded a huge success despite the event being moved at the last minute South Africa have shown they are more then capable of hosting such a major event.

The topic of moving over seas was discussed at yesterdays Champions League governing council meeting, however no details will be announced until a final decision is made but it is thought countries like Australia and the US have already been ruled out of the running.

Although discussions have started with USA Cricket it is believed Lalit Modi wants to take the IPL to the States first in 2011 while Australia is out of the running because of the massive time difference which would effect prime time television ratings.
