A superb bowling performance by left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati gave Chennai Super Kings their third win of the tournament and with it some momentum. Chennai's total of 163 - built around a 66-run partnership between Suresh Raina and S Badrinath - seemed too little after they whimpered to a finish, but led by Jakati and Muttiah Muralitharan they hit back at the clutch, disturbing a threatening stand and keeping Delhi to 145 as the IPL bandwagon landed in Johannesburg.
Dirk Nannes and Ashish Nehra took three wickets each as Delhi Daredevils held Chennai Super Kings to 163 after electing to bowl at the Wanderers on Saturday. Chennai, who were 130-4 after 15 overs, could only add 33 runs off the last five overs as they collapsed to 163 all out. Chennai got off to a terrific start through Matthew Hayden who looked in ominous touch before Pradeep Sangwan had him caught for 30 off 19 balls, after Nehra broke through to remove Murali Vijay in the previous over. But Suresh Raina, who bludgeoned 98 runs in the previous game against Rajasthan Royals, along with S Badrinath, got them back on track with a swift 66-run stand. Raina scored 32 which came off 21 balls but was snared by Rajat Bhatia, playing his first game for the Daredevils this season. Badrinath carried on before he was was castled by Bhatia for 45 as Daredevils pulled Chennai back with quick wickets. Dirk Nannes, who finished with figures of 3-27, was on a hat-trick after getting big-hitters Jacob Oram and MS Dhoni off successive balls, but bowled a wide on the following ball. Virender Sehwag, who required stitches during the game against Deccan Chargers, sat out the game to make way for Australian batsman David Warner, while all-rounder Rajat Bhatia came in for New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori. Gautam Gambhir took over as captain. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, included opener Murali Vijay who replaced Parthiv Patel. The two teams met earlier in the competition with Delhi coming out on top courtesy the IPL's first century from AB de Villiers. |
